Daegu City has been selected for the "2022 Public Data Corporate Matching Support Project," a digital new deal project organized by the Ministry of Interior and Safety and secured 1.57 billion won in state funds for the construction of roadside trees growth information.

The task is to build a database by collecting detailed information such as location information, tree species, specifications, receipt, and root damage status of street trees.

The business period is from July to the end of December, and 66 young interns will be deployed to the city along with two IT companies, SORIEN Co., Ltd. and FI Solution Co., Ltd.

First of all, detailed information on 100,390 trees out of 226,724 street trees in Daegu City will be collected, converted into a database, and released on the public data portal by the end of the year.

The constructed data will be registered and visualized on the "Daegu Map Portal" in the future or used as a base material for innovative street tree businesses such as establishing a separate smart tree map.

Roadside trees are one of the most important elements of urban forests and have many net functions such as providing green areas and reducing fine dust and environmental pollutants. However, there are many complaints such as covering signs, pollen, and walking inconvenience caused by root protrusions.

Daegu City will start efforts to promote street tree management policies that can reach residents realistically, such as pollen notification service and residential environment-friendly index notification by applying tree big data analysis and prediction model by establishing a smart roadside tree management system starting from this project.

Hong Sung-joo, director of the Green Environment of Daegu City, said, "We expect that the establishment of detailed growth information on street trees will help efficient urban forest management and respond to climate change through big data analysis."
